A folding electric bike costs from €735 to €1,563 in our range, and the right one depends on the weight you can carry, the battery you need and, above all, the motor rating, because that decides whether the bike counts as an ordinary bicycle on public roads. This guide compares six folding e-bikes from our catalogue with prices, motor, battery and weight from the makers and dealers we cite, and shows the one check most buying guides skip.

Three folding electric bike models: Lectric XP Lite 2.0, Aventon Sinch.2 Folding and Segway Muxi Folding

Quick picks: six folding e-bikes side by side

Start with the table. Prices are our current catalogue prices in euro including delivery to Denmark. Motor, battery, weight and wheel size are the figures published by the makers or by dealers; a dash means we found no published figure, and we left it out rather than guess. Segway Muxi Folding€1,563750 W717 Wh33 kg–

Three things stand out. First, these bikes are not light: 22.2 kg for the Lectric XP Lite 2.0 is the lightest in the table, and the Segway Muxi lists 33 kg, so think about stairs, car boots and trains before you buy. Second, battery size runs from 374 Wh to 717 Wh, which is a big range difference. Third, every motor with a published rating is above 250 W, which matters for road use, as the next section explains.

Folding electric bike: what you actually get

A foldable electric bike has a hinged frame, and often a folding handlebar stem, so it shrinks for the boot of a car, a flat or a storage room. Most models in our range use 20-inch wheels, a rear hub motor and a battery on the frame or rack. The trade-off for the compact size is weight and a ride that feels different from a full-size bike: shorter wheelbase, smaller wheels and, on several models, wide tyres.

Folding does not make a bike light. A folded 28 kg bike is still 28 kg, and the folded shape can be awkward to lift. If you will carry the bike up stairs or onto trains every day, choose the lightest model you can ride comfortably and try lifting it first. If you mostly roll it into a lift or store it flat, weight matters less than battery and comfort.

The 250 W check: what decides road use

Under EU Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, pedal cycles with pedal assistance and an auxiliary motor of up to 250 W continuous rated power, whose assistance is cut off before 25 km/h, are outside the motor-vehicle L-categories (Article 2). That is why an ordinary e-bike is treated as a bicycle. Our own guidance says the same: an e-bike is road-legal at up to 250 W and 25 km/h assistance.

Now look at the table. The Lectric XP Lite 2.0 lists a 300 W motor, the Aventon Sinch.2 and Lectric XP 3.0 list 500 W (with 1,056 W and 1,000 W peak), and the Rad Power Bikes RadExpand 5 and Segway Muxi list 750 W. Those are the ratings published for these models by the makers and dealers we cite. A bike rated above 250 W, or with assistance beyond 25 km/h, is not covered by the pedal-cycle exemption, so you cannot assume it is an ordinary bicycle on public roads in Denmark or elsewhere in the EU.

What to do: ask us before you buy whether the model you want is supplied or configured to the EU 250 W / 25 km/h specification, and for the road status in your country. If the answer is no, treat the bike as a private-land machine until you have confirmed the rules with your national authority. Also check whether the bike has a throttle that works without pedalling, because that changes how it is classed. We would rather tell you now than have you find out after delivery.

Battery, range and charging

Battery capacity (Wh) decides how far you go. Our table runs from 374 Wh (Lectric XP Lite 2.0) to 717 Wh (Segway Muxi), with 499 Wh on the Lectric XP 3.0 and 672 Wh on the Aventon Sinch.2 and the Rad Power Bikes RadExpand 5. Real range depends on assistance level, rider weight, terrain, wind and temperature, so treat any published range as a best case and compare watt-hours instead.

For a short daily commute of a few kilometres, a 374 Wh pack is plenty and keeps weight down. For longer trips, hills or heavier riders, the 672 to 717 Wh packs give more margin, at the cost of weight and price. Ask about the charger rating and the charging time, whether the battery can be removed for charging indoors, and what the battery warranty covers.

Which folding e-bike for which rider

Lightest and lowest price

The Lectric XP Lite 2.0 (€735, 300 W, 374 Wh, 22.2 kg) is the lightest and cheapest here. It suits short trips and riders who carry the bike. The Lectric XP 3.0 (€919, 500 W, 499 Wh, 29 kg) adds battery and power for a modest price step.

All-round commuter

The Aventon Sinch.2 Folding (€1,195, 672 Wh, 30.8 kg) and the Rad Power Bikes RadExpand 5 (€1,379, 750 W, 672 Wh, 28.3 kg) have the larger battery for longer rides. The Aventon Sinch.2 Folding is the more affordable of the two.

Comfort and carrying capacity

The Segway Muxi Folding (€1,563, 750 W, 80 Nm, 717 Wh, 33 kg) is the largest battery and the heaviest bike in the table. It suits riders who value range and a robust build over portability. See the Segway Muxi Folding page for details.

Step-through option

The Ride1Up Portola Folding (€1,007) has a step-through frame and is a good fit if getting on and off easily matters. We found no published motor, battery or weight figures for it, so ask us for its specification before you decide.

Fit, folding mechanism and everyday use

Small wheels and a short wheelbase make folding bikes agile in traffic but twitchier at speed. Check the rider height range the maker gives, the saddle and handlebar adjustment, and the brakes, because disc brakes help with the extra weight. Look at how the bike folds: the number of steps, whether the latch is easy to operate with gloves, and whether the pedals and handlebar fold too.

Think about where the bike will live. A folded bike takes less space but not no space, and the battery is best kept dry and at moderate temperature. If you plan to take it on public transport, check the operator's rules on folded bikes and batteries before you commit.

What a folding electric bike really costs

Our prices run from €735 to €1,563 including delivery to Denmark. We ship from Germany with free EU land shipping on orders over €3,000, orders are processed in 1 to 3 business days, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal, and the products carry a 2-year guarantee. The minimum order is €350. Budget also for a helmet, a strong lock, lights and a pump, and for servicing brakes and tyres.

Compare the total cost, not only the price: delivery, guarantee terms, battery warranty and how easy spare parts are to get. Ask us on the contact page for the current price, stock and the road status of any model.

Buying checklist and common mistakes

  1. Check the motor rating first. If you want to ride on public roads, ask for the 250 W / 25 km/h specification in writing.
  2. Weigh the bike against your life. Try lifting a 22 kg and a 33 kg bike before you decide.
  3. Compare battery size in Wh. Range claims depend on assistance and rider weight.
  4. Check the fold. Practise folding and unfolding it, with gloves on.
  5. Look at brakes and tyres. Small wheels and extra weight need good brakes.
  6. Ask for missing figures. If a maker publishes no motor, battery or weight, ask before buying.
  7. Plan storage and charging. A dry place and a nearby socket matter more than the colour.

Frequently asked questions

For short commutes the Lectric XP Lite 2.0 at €735 is the lightest and cheapest here, with a 374 Wh battery and 22.2 kg. For longer rides the Aventon Sinch.2 Folding at €1,195 has a 672 Wh battery. Check the motor rating for road use first.

In our catalogue the six folding e-bikes compared here run from €735 (Lectric XP Lite 2.0) to €1,563 (Segway Muxi Folding), including delivery to Denmark. A helmet, a strong lock and lights are extra, so plan on a hundred euro or more on top of the bike.

An e-bike with a motor up to 250 W that cuts assistance before 25 km/h is outside the EU motor-vehicle categories and is treated as a bicycle. Several models here list 300 to 750 W, so ask us for the road status of the exact model before riding on public roads.

In our table the weights run from 22.2 kg (Lectric XP Lite 2.0) to 33 kg (Segway Muxi Folding). Folding makes the bike smaller, not lighter, so try lifting it if you will carry it up stairs or onto trains. Weights are published values and vary with specification.

Yes. We ship from Germany with free delivery in Denmark and free EU land shipping on orders over €3,000. Orders are processed in 1 to 3 business days, and delivery time depends on the address, so ask us for an estimate before you order.
