Giant electric bike guide: Trance X E+, Reign E+ and Fathom E+ compared

A Giant electric bike in our catalogue costs between €3,680 and €5,520, and all four models we stock use the same Yamaha SyncDrive Pro mid-drive motor. That means the choice is not about power: it is about whether you want the all-rounder Trance X E+, the long-travel Reign E+ with its 800 Wh battery, or the Fathom E+ hardtail. This guide compares the four Giant eMTBs we stock with euro prices from our catalogue and the specifications on our product pages, and covers the €460 EnergyPak range extender and the price per watt-hour.

Quick picks: the Giant electric bike range side by side

Start with the table. Prices are our current catalogue prices in euro including delivery to Denmark. Motor is the drive unit named on the product page, torque is the published figure, battery is capacity in watt-hours, weight is the published weight and travel is suspension travel in millimetres. A dash means we found no reliable figure for that bike and left it out instead of guessing. Click a model to open its product page.

ModelPriceMotorTorque (Nm)BatteryWeightTravel (mm)
Giant Trance X E+ Elite€3,680Yamaha SyncDrive Pro85–––
Giant Fathom E+ 1 Pro€3,864Yamaha SyncDrive Pro80625 Wh–130 (hardtail)
Giant Trance X E+ 1 Pro€5,060Yamaha SyncDrive Pro85–––
Giant Reign E+ Pro€5,520Yamaha SyncDrive Pro85800 Wh–160

Three things stand out. First, every bike here has the Yamaha SyncDrive Pro mid-drive, with 85 N·m on the Trance and Reign and 80 N·m on the Fathom. Second, the Giant Reign E+ Pro has the biggest published battery, 800 Wh. Third, every model is a 250 W, 25 km/h pedelec in its EU configuration, so each is treated as a bicycle in most EU countries.

The Giant electric bike range: Trance, Reign and Fathom

The three families in our catalogue are different bikes. The Trance X E+ is offered in two versions. The Reign E+ Pro is the full-suspension bike with 160 mm of travel and the largest battery. The Fathom E+ 1 Pro is a hardtail with a 130 mm fork, a 29-inch wheel and a 625 Wh battery. Our pages list travel for the Reign and the Fathom only, so we leave dashes for the Trance instead of guessing.

That gives you a simple way to choose: Fathom if you want the lowest-cost hardtail, Trance for the middle of the range, Reign if you want the most battery and travel. For the wider market, our electric mountain bike buying guide, the Trek Rail and Powerfly comparison and the Specialized Levo and Kenevo comparison cover the other brands.

Giant Trance X E+: two versions, one motor

The Giant Trance X E+ Elite costs €3,680 and lists the Yamaha SyncDrive Pro mid-drive with 85 N·m and an aluminium frame. The Giant Trance X E+ 1 Pro costs €5,060 and lists the same motor and torque. The gap between them is €1,380, which is about 37 percent more for the 1 Pro.

We do not publish battery, weight or travel for either Trance, because we could not source reliable figures, so ask us exactly what the 1 Pro adds on the model year we deliver before you pay the extra €1,380. If you cannot see a clear gain for you, the Elite is the better value.

Giant Reign E+ Pro: the long-travel, big-battery bike

The Giant Reign E+ Pro costs €5,520 and lists a Yamaha SyncDrive Pro mid-drive with 85 N·m, an 800 Wh battery, an aluminium frame and 160 mm of full-suspension travel. It is the bike here for riders who want the most battery and travel, and it is the only model whose compatibility with the Giant range extender we can state from our pages.

It costs €460 more than the Trance X E+ 1 Pro, the next bike up in price. For that you get the largest battery in the range. If long days on steep terrain are your riding, it is the one to pick.

Giant Fathom E+ 1 Pro: the hardtail

The Giant Fathom E+ 1 Pro costs €3,864 and lists a Yamaha SyncDrive Pro mid-drive with 80 N·m, a 625 Wh battery, a 29-inch wheel size, an aluminium frame and a hardtail with a 130 mm fork. It is the simplest bike here: no rear shock to service, fewer moving parts and the second-lowest price.

It is the sensible choice for riders who mostly climb, ride mixed trails and want low maintenance. It has less torque than the Trance and Reign (80 N·m against 85 N·m) and less travel, so it is not the bike for steep technical descents.

Price per watt-hour and the €460 EnergyPak range extender

Where we publish both numbers, the Giant Fathom E+ 1 Pro comes out at about €6.18 per Wh (€3,864 for 625 Wh) and the Giant Reign E+ Pro at about €6.90 per Wh (€5,520 for 800 Wh). The Reign costs €1,656 more than the Fathom and gives you 175 Wh more battery, 28 percent, plus full suspension and 160 mm of travel.

The Giant EnergyPak Range-Extender costs €460 and lists 250 Wh at 36 V, a weight of 1.8 kg and compatibility with the Giant E+ Pro range: Reign, Revolt, Road, FastRoad, Thrive and Explore. That works out at about €1.84 per Wh, the cheapest watt-hours in this guide. Added to a Reign E+ Pro it would bring the total to 1,050 Wh. Compatibility depends on your exact bike, so send us the model before you order and we will confirm the fit.

EU road status: a 250 W, 25 km/h pedelec

In its EU configuration each Giant here has a 250 W motor with assist up to 25 km/h, which is how our product pages describe them: treated as a bicycle in most EU countries. Under Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, pedal cycles with pedal assistance, a continuous rated power of 0.25 kW or less and assist cutting off at 25 km/h are outside the scope of the L-category vehicle rules, which is why a normal e-bike does not need registration. National rules still differ on helmets, minimum age and where you may ride.

For the rules in your country, see our guides for Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Spain and Finland.

What these bikes really cost

Prices run from €3,680 to €5,520, with delivery to Denmark included. We ship from Germany, with free EU land shipping on orders over €3,000, orders are processed in 1 to 3 business days, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal and the products come with a 2-year guarantee. The minimum order is €350. Budget separately for a helmet, protective gear, pedals and a decent lock, plus a service plan for the suspension and drivetrain.

Compare the total price with delivery, warranty terms and parts availability, not just the headline figure. Prices are indicative and confirmed on order. Ask us on the contact page for current stock, delivery time to your country and the exact specification of a model.

Buying checklist and common mistakes

  1. Remember the motor is the same. Pay for frame, battery and travel, not for power.
  2. Do the battery arithmetic. 625 Wh against 800 Wh changes your day, and the extender adds 250 Wh where it fits.
  3. Ask for the missing figures. Battery, weight and travel are not published for every model here.
  4. Check the model year. Specifications vary by model year and market, and we confirm the exact version before you order.
  5. Beware of too-good prices. Buy from a seller with a registered business and a guarantee.
  6. Check parts and service. Suspension and brake pads wear.
  7. Budget for protective gear. A helmet and protection are not optional.
