Fat tyre electric bike guide: six fat tire e-bikes compared on price, battery and EU rules

By Kobolt Bikes · ·

A fat tyre electric bike in our catalogue costs from €919 to €2,759, and the numbers on the spec sheets can mislead: most of these bikes are listed with 500 to 1,000 W motors that are built for other markets, while the EU configuration is usually a 250 W motor with a 25 km/h assist limit. This guide compares the six fat-tire e-bikes we stock, Lectric, Ride1Up, Aventon, Juiced, Rad Power and EMORTAL, with euro prices from our catalogue and the specifications on our product pages, and shows what each bike really costs per watt-hour of battery.

Quick picks: the fat tyre electric bike range side by side

Start with the table. Prices are our current catalogue prices in euro including delivery to Denmark. Motor is the published figure, torque is the published figure, battery is capacity, weight is the published weight and wheel is the wheel size in inches. A dash means we found no reliable figure for that bike and left it out instead of guessing. Click a model to open its product page.

Rad Power Bikes RadRover 6 Plus Fat Tire€1,839750 W rear hub–672 Wh32.9 kg26
EMORTAL Rogue MX-01 Fat Tire€2,759––48 V / 13 Ah––

Three things stand out. First, the Lectric XP 3.0 Fat Tire at €919 is the cheapest and the lightest at 29 kg. Second, the Juiced RipCurrent S Fat Tire has by far the biggest battery, 995 Wh. Third, the EMORTAL Rogue MX-01 is not an e-bike in the normal sense: our page says it is for supervised off-road use on private land.

What a fat tyre electric bike is for, and the catch

A fat tyre electric bike is built for soft ground: sand, snow, mud and loose trails, with wide tyres and a rear-hub motor that does the climbing. Five of our six models list a rear-hub motor of 500 W (1,000 W peak), 750 W or 1,000 W. The catch is on every product page: road legality depends on the market version, and we confirm the EU-compliant configuration, usually a 250 W motor with a 25 km/h assist limit, before shipping.

So treat the headline wattage as the specification of the bike as designed, not as what you will ride in the EU. Ask us what the version we deliver to your country actually is. For the wider market, our electric mountain bike buying guide and our folding e-bike guide cover other bike types.

Lectric XP 3.0 and Ride1Up Rift: the two lower-priced bikes

The Lectric XP 3.0 Fat Tire costs €919 and lists a 500 W (1,000 W peak) rear-hub motor, a 499 Wh battery (48 V / 10.4 Ah), a weight of 29 kg and 20-inch wheels. It is the cheapest and lightest bike here.

The Ride1Up Rift Fat Tire costs €1,467 and lists a 750 W rear-hub motor and 95 N·m of torque, the only torque figure published for the group. We do not publish its battery, weight or wheel size, so ask us for those numbers if they matter before you order.

Aventon, Juiced and Rad Power: the three mid-priced bikes

The Aventon Aventure 2 Fat Tire costs €1,655 and lists a 750 W rear-hub motor and a weight of 34.9 kg, the heaviest here. The Juiced RipCurrent S Fat Tire also costs €1,655 and lists a 1,000 W rear-hub motor, a 995 Wh battery (52 V / 19.2 Ah) and a weight of 34.5 kg. The Rad Power RadRover 6 Plus Fat Tire costs €1,839 and lists a 750 W rear-hub motor, a 672 Wh battery (48 V / 14 Ah), a weight of 32.9 kg and 26-inch wheels.

The comparison that matters is Juiced against Rad Power. The Juiced has 323 Wh more battery, which is 48 percent more, and costs €184 less. The Rad Power is 1.6 kg lighter. If range matters more than a little weight, the numbers favour the Juiced.

Price per watt-hour: what the numbers say

Where we publish a battery size, the Juiced RipCurrent S comes out at about €1.66 per Wh (€1,655 for 995 Wh), the Lectric XP 3.0 at about €1.84 (€919 for 499 Wh) and the Rad Power RadRover 6 Plus at about €2.74 (€1,839 for 672 Wh). The EMORTAL Rogue MX-01 lists 48 V / 13 Ah, which is 624 Wh, and at €2,759 comes out at about €4.42 per Wh. We do not publish a battery for the Ride1Up or the Aventon, so we leave them out.

Read it carefully. Battery capacity is only one part of range: weight, tyre pressure, terrain, speed and temperature matter too, and a fat tyre electric bike on sand or snow uses its battery far faster than on tarmac. The numbers tell you what you pay for capacity, not how far you will go.

EMORTAL Rogue MX-01: not a normal e-bike

The EMORTAL Rogue MX-01 Fat Tire costs €2,759 and lists a 48 V / 13 Ah battery and a top speed of 45 km/h. Our product page says it is intended for supervised off-road use on private land and that you should always wear a helmet and protective gear. It is a small off-road bike in the style of a mini dirt bike, not a pedal-assist bicycle, and it is the most expensive per watt-hour here.

Buy it only if that is what you want. For adult off-road riding, our electric dirt bikes cover the proper range, and our rules guides explain what is legal where you live.

EU road status: why the 250 W configuration matters

Under Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, pedal cycles with pedal assistance, a continuous rated power of 0.25 kW or less and assist cutting off at 25 km/h are outside the scope of the L-category vehicle rules, which is why a normal e-bike does not need registration. A bike with a 750 W or 1,000 W motor, or assist beyond 25 km/h, is a different legal category and falls under the moped or motorcycle rules, with registration, insurance and a licence where your country requires them. That is why we confirm the EU configuration before shipping.

For the rules in your country, see our guides for Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Spain and Finland.

What these bikes really cost

Prices run from €919 to €2,759, with delivery to Denmark included. We ship from Germany, with free EU land shipping on orders over €3,000, orders are processed in 1 to 3 business days, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal and the products come with a 2-year guarantee. The minimum order is €350, so a single low-priced bike may need other items to reach it. Budget separately for a helmet, lights and a lock.

Compare the total price with delivery, warranty terms and parts availability, not just the headline figure. Prices are indicative and confirmed on order. Ask us on the contact page for current stock and the exact specification of a model.

Buying checklist and common mistakes

  1. Ask for the EU configuration. A 750 W or 1,000 W headline figure is not what you ride in the EU.
  2. Do the battery arithmetic. 499 Wh against 995 Wh doubles your range at the same effort.
  3. Check weight. These bikes weigh 29 to 35 kg; think about lifting and storing.
  4. Ask for the missing figures. Battery, weight and wheel size are not published for every bike.
  5. Check the model year. Specifications vary by model year and market, and we confirm the exact version before you order.
  6. Beware of too-good prices. Buy from a seller with a registered business and a guarantee.
  7. Budget for a helmet, lights and a lock. They are not optional.
