Giant Defy and Revolt compared with Trek Domane+ and Checkpoint+: electric road and gravel bikes
By Kobolt Bikes · ·

Giant Defy and Revolt, Trek Domane+ and Trek Checkpoint+ are the electric road and gravel bikes in our catalogue, and they run from €3,680 to €6,440. They are not close relatives: the motors range from a 30 N·m rear-hub system to an 85 N·m mid-drive, and the batteries from 250 Wh to 500 Wh. This guide compares all six with euro prices from our catalogue and the specifications on our product pages, and shows the numbers most guides skip: price per watt-hour, and what the lightest bikes really weigh.

Quick picks: Giant Defy, Revolt and Trek Domane+ side by side
Start with the table. Prices are our current catalogue prices in euro including delivery to Denmark. Motor is the drive unit named on the product page, torque is the published figure, battery is capacity in watt-hours and weight is the published weight. A dash means we found no reliable figure for that bike and left it out instead of guessing. Click a model to open its product page.
| Model | Price | Motor | Torque (Nm) | Battery | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trek Domane+ ALR 5 | €3,680 | TQ-HPR60 | 60 | 360 Wh | – |
| Giant Revolt E+ Pro | €4,140 | Shimano mid-drive | 85 | 500 Wh | – |
| Trek Domane+ HP | €5,060 | Bosch Performance Line | 85 | 500 Wh | – |
| Trek Checkpoint+ SL 5 | €5,060 | TQ-HPR60 | 60 | 360 Wh | 13.81 kg |
| Giant Defy Advanced E+ 0 | €5,060 | Giant SyncDrive Move Plus (rear hub) | 30 | 400 Wh | – |
| Trek Domane+ LT 9 | €6,440 | Fazua (250 W) | 55 | 250 Wh | 13.6 kg |
Three things stand out. First, the Giant Revolt E+ Pro and the Trek Domane+ HP both list 85 N·m and 500 Wh, but the Revolt costs €920 less. Second, the Giant Defy Advanced E+ 0 lists only 30 N·m: it is a light-assist road bike, not a strong climber. Third, every model is a 250 W, 25 km/h pedelec in its EU configuration, so each is treated as a bicycle in most EU countries.
Motors and torque: four very different systems
The six bikes use five different drive systems. The Revolt uses a Shimano mid-drive with 85 N·m, the Domane+ HP a Bosch Performance Line mid-drive with 85 N·m and a 600 W peak. The Domane+ ALR 5 and the Checkpoint+ SL 5 use the TQ-HPR60 mid-drive with 60 N·m, the Domane+ LT 9 a Fazua 250 W mid-drive with 55 N·m, and the Defy Advanced E+ 0 a Giant SyncDrive Move Plus rear hub with 30 N·m.
Torque is what you feel on a steep climb, so the ladder matters: 85, 60, 55 and 30 N·m. If you ride gravel climbs with a loaded bike, the two 85 N·m bikes are the strong choice. If you want a road bike that feels like a normal one with a gentle push, the lighter systems are the point. For the wider market, our guides to Giant electric mountain bikes and Trek Rail and Powerfly cover the off-road bikes.

Giant Defy and Revolt: the two Giant bikes
The Giant Revolt E+ Pro costs €4,140 and lists a Shimano mid-drive with 85 N·m and a 500 Wh battery. It is the cheapest bike here with a big motor and a big battery, at about €8.28 per Wh. We do not publish a weight or frame material for it, so ask us before you order if either matters.
The Giant Defy Advanced E+ 0 costs €5,060 and lists a Giant SyncDrive Move Plus rear hub with 30 N·m, a 400 Wh battery and a carbon frame. At about €12.65 per Wh it is pricier per watt-hour than the Revolt, and with less than half the torque. Choose it for a road bike that rides naturally and adds a gentle boost, not for steep gravel climbs.
Trek Domane+ and Checkpoint+: the four Trek bikes
The Trek Domane+ ALR 5 costs €3,680 and lists the TQ-HPR60 mid-drive with 60 N·m, a 360 Wh battery and an aluminium frame. It is the cheapest bike in this guide. The Trek Checkpoint+ SL 5 costs €5,060 and lists the same TQ-HPR60 motor, torque and battery with a carbon frame, a weight of 13.81 kg and 12-speed gearing. So the €1,380 between them buys the carbon frame and a lighter, higher-spec bike, not more power.
The Trek Domane+ HP costs €5,060 and lists a Bosch Performance Line mid-drive (600 W peak) with 85 N·m, a 500 Wh battery and a carbon frame. The Trek Domane+ LT 9 costs €6,440 and lists a Fazua 250 W mid-drive with 55 N·m, a 250 Wh battery, a carbon frame and a weight of 13.6 kg. That is the lightest bike here, and the smallest battery.
Price per watt-hour: what the numbers say
Divide each catalogue price by battery capacity and the Giant Revolt E+ Pro is the best value at about €8.28 per Wh (€4,140 for 500 Wh). The Trek Domane+ HP comes out at about €10.12 (€5,060 for 500 Wh), the Domane+ ALR 5 at about €10.22 (€3,680 for 360 Wh), the Giant Defy at about €12.65 (€5,060 for 400 Wh), the Checkpoint+ SL 5 at about €14.06 (€5,060 for 360 Wh) and the Domane+ LT 9 at about €25.76 (€6,440 for 250 Wh).
Read it carefully. The light bikes are not built to win on watt-hours: you pay for low weight and a natural feel. The Domane+ LT 9 is 0.21 kg lighter than the Checkpoint+ SL 5 (13.6 kg against 13.81 kg) and costs €1,380 more, with 110 Wh less battery. If a few hundred grams is worth that to you, it is the one; otherwise the numbers favour the Revolt and the Domane+ HP.
EU road status: a 250 W, 25 km/h pedelec
In its EU configuration each of these bikes has a 250 W motor with assist up to 25 km/h, which is how our product pages describe them: treated as a bicycle in most EU countries. Under Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, pedal cycles with pedal assistance, a continuous rated power of 0.25 kW or less and assist cutting off at 25 km/h are outside the scope of the L-category vehicle rules, which is why a normal e-bike does not need registration. The 600 W figure for the Domane+ HP is a peak, not the continuous rating. National rules still differ on helmets, minimum age and where you may ride.
For the rules in your country, see our guides for Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Spain and Finland.

Buying checklist and common mistakes
- Decide road or gravel first. The Revolt and Checkpoint+ are gravel bikes; the Defy and Domane+ are road bikes.
- Check torque for your hills. 30 N·m and 85 N·m are very different on a steep climb.
- Do the battery arithmetic. 250 Wh against 500 Wh halves your range at the same effort.
- Ask for the missing figures. Weight is published for only two bikes here.
- Check the model year. Specifications vary by model year and market, and we confirm the exact version before you order.
- Beware of too-good prices. Buy from a seller with a registered business and a guarantee.
- Budget for lights, helmet and lock. They are not optional.
